Frequently Asked Questions About SMP

Does Micropigmentation Grow My Hair Back?

Micropigmentation is a coverup solution. It does not grow the hair back. However, it does blend in with your natural hair, and it will make it look like your hair grew back. Micropigmentation is practically undetectable. Unless you tell someone you have had it done, most will ever know the difference, even if they are looking at your scalp with a microscope.

How Does Micropigmentation Blend With Gray Hair?

When the hair is cut low, it has a darker tone and is a different color than grey. We use a pigmentation color chart that is based on the skin color and hair color ratio. This allows us to match any pigment color ink with your natural grey hair, giving you an undetectable blend with your natural hair.

How Long Does Scalp Micropigmentation Last?

Scalp micropigmentation typically lasts 8–10 years, depending on how well you follow the pre- and post-care instructions. A minor touch-up might be needed after about 5–6 years.

How Much Does Scalp Micropigmentation Cost? Is Financing Available?

The cost of the procedure is determined at your free consultation, and is based on the amount of work needed. Cost typically ranges from $2,000 to $4,000. If you are only interested in a hairline reconstruction, that normally costs about $1,500. We offer 100% financing with 0% interest available through CareCredit.

Does My Skin Color or Ethnicity Change the Effectiveness of the Procedure?

No. Hair loss happens to every race and ethnicity. We have a pigment of ink for any and every type of hair and skin color. With our advanced pigmentation color chart, we match your skin tone with your hair color and choose a pigment color based on those two variables.

Do I Have to Wear My Hair Bald to Get This Procedure?

No. We provide several different options when it comes to hairstyles. We offer fill-ins, density fills, and more. During your free consultation, one of our friendly professionals will go over what options are available for your specific needs.

Is There Any Downtime Required After Scalp Micropigmentation?

No. You can go back to work right after the procedure. There is no scarring or bandaging. The only requirement is that you don’t get your scalp wet for at least three days.

How Long Does Scalp Micropigmentation Take?

The procedure is done in three sessions that are one week apart from each other. The first session typically takes between two and three hours depending on the amount of work needed.

What Type of Ink Is Used?

At Skin & Scalp Restoration Clinic, we use the very best pigmentation ink, designed specifically for scalp micropigmentation only. We never use regular tattoo ink! If someone is using tattoo ink for scalp micropigmentation, that shows that they are not experienced in this field and you should look for a scalp micropigmentation specialist familiar with the proper pigmentation ink!
